APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

In accordance with the decision No: 3 taken at the University Senate Meeting No: 13/05 held on February 21, 2013, foreign students from abroad will be admitted to Galatasaray University through the Galatasaray University Foreign Student Selection Exam (GSÜYÖSS) (*).

 

Individuals can apply to GSÜYÖSS if they satisfy all of the below requirements:
  • Being senior at or graduated from a high school
  • Having an eligible nationality
    • Foreign nationals
    • Natural born foreign nationals who later acquired Turkish citizenship and currently holding dual citizenship
    • Natural born citizens of the Republic of Turkey who abandoned their citizenship upon the approval of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, and those who hold the Official Document for The Use of Rights Granted by The Law No:5203, which is issued for their children under the full legal age who are registered on the document that certifies the abandonment of Turkish citizenship
    • Nationals of the Republic of Turkey who completed their entire secondary education in a foreign country other than Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)
    • Nationals of the TRNC who completed all of their secondary education in the TRNC and are currently holding a General Certificate of Education (GCE) at Advanced Level (AL).
    • Nationals of the TRNC who enrolled and pursued their studies in secondary education institutions in other countries between 2005 and 2010; and either have been awarded or are expected to be awarded with a GCE Advanced Level certification
  • Having received a minimum score on a national/international exam or meeting a minimum high school GPA (Grade Point Average)
    • list of exams approved by the University can be found on the University’s website
    • Any applicant providing the result of an entrance exam to higher education institutions such as Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) must have taken the exam within two years prior to the application
    • There is no validity period defined for the graduation grades on the high school diplomas/transcripts or for the results of high school graduation exams (such as GCE-AL, IB Diploma or Baccalaureate)
    • Applicant’s high school GPA must be disclosed on the diploma/degree or transcript
  • Being in a possession of DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) B2 certificate (except for those who, within at least the last three years, attended and graduated from a high school located in a country where French is the native/official language)

 

Individuals cannot apply to GSÜYÖSS if they are
  • Nationals of the Republic of Turkey who completed all their secondary education in Turkey or in TRNC
  • Nationals of the TRNC (except those having residency in the TRNC who completed their secondary education in the TRNC and received a GCE AL, and such applicants who completed their secondary education between 2005 and 2010 in another country and received a GCE AL)
  • Dual nationals who are Turkish citizens by birth (except those who completed their entire secondary education in a foreign country other than TRNC/those who completed their entire secondary education in a Turkish school in a foreign country other than TRNC)
  • Dual nationals who are TRNC citizens (except for those awarded a GCE Advanced Level certification after completing all of their secondary education at high schools in TRNC as well as those who enrolled and pursued their studies in secondary education institutions in other countries between 2005 and 2010; and either have been awarded or are expected to be awarded with a GCE Advanced Level certification)
  • Turkish citizens who completed their secondary education at a school within Turkey that is either affiliated with the Embassy of a foreign country or that is a foreign high school (this provision also applies to dual nationals whose Turkish citizenship results from being born in Turkey).
  • Dismissed students from a Turkish higher education institution due to a disciplinary sanction

 

Documents required for the application:
  • Completed application form
  • A copy of the passport including all the pages showing identity information and passport validity and its translation to Turkish (all documents must be approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey)
  • A copy of the result of a national/international exam (document must be approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey)
  • A copy of the high school diploma or the interim certificate of graduation and its translation to Turkish. High school seniors should provide an official document issued by the high school directorate showing the date of graduation and its translation to Turkish (all documents must be approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey)
  • A copy of the certificate of equivalence (showing that the high school diplomas is equivalent to a diploma of Turkish high schools) taken from a Provincial Directorate of National Education and approved by a notary public in Turkey, or taken from and approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey
  • High school transcript including GPA and its translation to Turkish (all documents must be approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey)
  • A copy of the DELF B2 Certificate (except for those who, within at least the last three years, attended and graduated from a high school located in a country where French is the native/official language)
  • According to the Article 9 of the Directive for International or Foreign National Students Admissions to Galatasaray University, any applicant to GSÜYÖSS must provide a Bank Letter of Guarantee as a justification of financial support. The letter must be prepared for an amount of at least the annual registration fee of the program the applicant is applying. Currency can be in USD, EURO or TRL. For all other currencies, conversion rate to TRL should be indicated on the letter.
  • An approved copy of the certificate in Turkish proficiency (if available)
  • Two recent photos of the applicant
  • Documents special to the nationals of the Republic of Turkey: A signed copy of the civil registry obtained from a National Registry Office, Notary or Foreign Representative Office of Turkish Republic for Turkish citizens
  • Documents special to natural born citizens of the Republic of Turkey who abandoned their citizenship upon the approval of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and their children under the full legal age who are registered on the document that certifies the abandonment of Turkish citizenship: A copy of the Official Document for The Use of Rights Granted by The Law No:5203 and a copy of their national identification document (all documents must be approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey)
  • Documents special to the dual nationals who are natural born citizens of a foreign country and acquired Turkish citizenship later on:Copies of the foreign and Turkish identification documents, and also a copy of the official document indicating the date of the Turkish citizenship acquisition (all documents must be approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey)
  • Documents special to the eligible nationals of TRNC: A copy of the GCE-AL approved by a Foreign Consular Office of the Republic of Turkey.

Application Place: Galatasaray University Registrar’s Office, Ciragan Caddesi No:36 Ortakoy Istanbul/Turkey (applications must be sent by mail or delivered in person. Applications by e-mail will not be considered. Any delay in delivery caused by the postal service will nullify the application)

Application Fee: University applications are free of charge.
